Adaptation
适应
The ability to adjust to age, environment, work, life events and changing conditions.
Definition
What Adaptation means
Adaptation describes how well a person adjusts when circumstances change — a new job, a move, a new decade of life, a season, a loss, a new responsibility.
Why it matters
Conditions always change. A life that only works under ideal conditions is fragile; adaptation is what makes wellbeing durable over decades.
What it includes
- Response to workload, travel and schedule change
- Adjustment to ageing and life stages
- Environmental and seasonal adjustment
- Flexibility of routines and habits
- Recovery from disruption and life events
How individuals observe it
- · Look back at the last significant change and how long adjusting took.
- · Notice which routines survive a disrupted week and which collapse.
- · Ask what would need to be true for change to feel manageable.
How practitioners use it
- · Design plans that survive travel, workload peaks and illness.
- · Build minimum viable routines for disrupted periods.
- · Review adaptation after each real-life change, not on a fixed calendar.
